Governance

How UGP changes and who looks after it: versions, public comment, proposals, decisions, the licence and the steward.

These pages are not versioned: they describe how every version of UGP is made, published and licensed.

How UGP changes

  • Versions use MAJOR.MINOR. A MAJOR version changes what a grade, an axis or the core code means; a MINOR version adds or clarifies. See Versioning. §18.2
  • Anyone can propose a change through the public proposal form. The steward reviews proposals every quarter and publishes every decision with its reasons. See Propose a change and Decisions. §18.5
  • Releases are announced at least 30 days before they take effect, in the changelog.
  • v1.0 is a public comment draft, open from October 24 to November 23, 2026. See Public comment. §19

Who looks after it

Device Supply is the steward: it maintains the standard, publishes it here with every past version, and considers proposals from anyone. Once outside adopters exist, it intends to invite an advisory group of repairers and wholesalers. See Steward. §18.1

Using it

Grading to UGP, showing its names and implementing it are free and need no permission. The text is licensed under CC BY-ND 4.0, and a separate policy covers the UGP name and badges. See Licence and Name and badge policy. §17
