Adoption checklist

PDF

One list to check before you show your first UGP grade: grading, records, display, claims, versions and disputes.

Each item links to the section that governs it. The checklist is a summary; the specification governs.

Grading

  • Graders inspect under the viewing conditions: at least 500 lumens of cool-white light, about 45 cm (18 in), about 4 seconds per surface and 6 on the display. §5.4
  • Every unit gets a lost/stolen check against a database covering its market, with source and date, or the seller's declaration that it is not reported lost or stolen. §9.3
  • Faults are recorded with lexicon codes; only FF devices are graded. §7
  • The battery is measured where possible; otherwise "≥ 80%" is declared by someone who answers for it. §8.3
  • Data is sanitised to NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 2 and IEEE 2883, with method, tool and revision recorded. §10.1
  • Grades transcribed from a supplier's scale are supplier-mapped: a published crosswalk, V0 Declared, labelled in every record and export. §13.6
  • Camera-based grading, if used, is calibrated to the same defect levels and recorded as cv or hybrid. §5.4

Records

  • Each record holds identity, the eight axes, each value's basis, and the audit fields. §4.1
  • Raw observations are stored: per-zone defects, fault codes, battery readings, part states. §4.3
  • Status, grade and core code are derived by code, never typed in, and the derivation passes the golden files. §4.4 · Golden examples
  • Records carry tolerance_table: "phone-1.0-provisional" while the counts are provisional. §5.5
  • The core code travels with its record, or with a statement that the lost/stolen check was performed or the declaration made. §12.4

Display

  • Every grade shows its name with its code and one-line test, or links to the test. §11.4
  • Carrier locks, non-genuine parts and partial kits are disclosed wherever the grade is shown. §11.4
  • Unverified parts, if shown, read "Parts not verified". §10.2.3
  • French pages use the official French names. Annex C
  • No status is ever shown as a grade; UGP-Cosmetic records show the cosmetic value only. §13.1
  • Premium appears only on Like New with A0, a measured battery of 90% or more and parts G. §10.3

Claims and versions

  • Every claim names the version, conformance level and verification tier. §13.3
  • Every offer and document of sale records the UGP version. §14.6
  • Nothing says or suggests the steward inspected, certified or endorses your devices, and nothing says "UGP Verified". §17.5
  • No ® next to UGP's names. §17.5
  • Mappings to CTIA or marketplaces say "maps to", and an exported CTIA vector is labelled derived from UGP v1.0. §15

Trade and disputes

  • Buyer-facing records and photos carry no seller identifier; grader IDs are pseudonymous. §14.4
  • Your terms say what happens on a material misgrade and on a minor variance. §14.3
  • Lots are graded per unit, or as a lot record with an ISO 2859-1 sampling plan. §14.5
  • You track each supplier's grade accuracy over a trailing 90 days. §14.7

When you are ready, ask to be listed as an implementer.
