Display rules
How to show a UGP grade on a listing, a price sheet, an invoice or a label: name, test, disclosures, version and language.
These rules apply to every view of a grade: a listing card, a product page, a price sheet, an export, an invoice, a packing slip, a label or an email.
(a) The name, its code and its test
Show the grade name with its code and its one-line test, or link to the test from the name.
Very Good Light marks on the body you can see but not feel. Screen near perfect.
On a small card, the chip can link to the grade's page instead, for example https://devicegrading.com/v1.0/docs/grades/very-good.
(b) The disclosures
Show, whenever they apply:
| Disclose | When | Example | |---|---| | Carrier (operator) lock | The device is locked | "Locked to Rogers" | | Non-genuine parts | Any tracked part is non-genuine | "Display: non-genuine" | | Kit | The kit is not full | "Partial: no charging cable", "Unit only", "New Open Box · Handset only" |
If you show parts at all, unverified parts read "Parts not verified" and never suggest the parts are genuine. Showing the battery basis (a measured percentage, or "declared") helps buyers, and a measured reading, when one was taken, is shown. §10.2.3 · §8.3
(c) The version, on every document of sale
Never show a grade on a document of sale (an offer, an order confirmation, an invoice) without the version it was graded under:
Grades: Universal Grading Protocol v1.0 (public comment draft) · devicegrading.com
(d) The published name, in the reader's language
Use the published names, in the reader's language, and no other praise words: never "Excellent", "Pristine", "Mint" or "Fair" in place of a UGP name. French pages use the official Canadian French names. Annex C
| Code | Name |
|---|---|
| NS | New Sealed |
| OB | New Open Box · Handset only |
| A | Like New |
| B | Very Good |
| C | Good |
| D | Acceptable |
| — | Premium |
When you list on a marketplace that has its own condition field, use its condition there and keep the UGP name in your own text. See Marketplaces.
(e) The code alone, where space is short
On price sheets, labels and exports, the code alone (NS, OB, A, B, C, D) can stand for the name, provided the full name is reachable, for example in a legend or a column header. §11.4
Supplier-mapped grades
A grade transcribed from a supplier's own scale through a published crosswalk is supplier-mapped. Its records and exports always say so (axes.cosmetic.mapped_from with the supplier's scale and grade, the supplier_mapped disclosure, and ~src:supplier on the core code), and its claim says so too: Graded to UGP v1.0 · UGP-Full · V0 Declared · supplier-mapped. On a listing it is shown like any other grade, with the same name, test and disclosures. §13.6
Statuses are never grades
A device without a grade shows its status (Repair, Parts, Encumbered, Unsanitized, Prohibited or Not graded), never a grade name, chip or meter. §11.1
The visual treatment
The recommended treatment is a four-segment meter beside the name for used grades, and a separate tint for the two New grades. The approved badge kit uses green only for New, purple only for Premium, and keeps the used grades neutral; do not recolour them green, red or amber. See Grade badges. Figure 4
