New Sealed and New Open Box: what qualifies, and the kit of an open-box device.

6.1 New Sealed (NS)

The device is in its manufacturer's retail packaging with the factory seal intact. It shall never have been refurbished, resealed or issued as a warranty replacement.

  • Because the device cannot be inspected, its cosmetic value is S, functional status FX, battery NA, locks N, data N, parts N.
  • The lost/stolen requirement of §9.3, a check or a declaration, still applies. Where the box shows an IMEI or serial number, a check is possible without opening it.

6.2 New Open Box (OB)

  • The seal is broken.
  • The device has never been activated or set up. An activated device is a used device, however briefly it was used.
  • It has zero defects on every zone (cosmetic value O).
  • It is fully functional (FF), tested after opening.
  • It meets every other READY requirement (§11).

6.3 Kit for OB

  • full: original box with all original contents;
  • partial: original box, with missing items listed;
  • handset only: no box. Its label is "New Open Box · Handset only".

6.4 Evidence of never activated (informative)

Examples:

  • the device starts at its first-run setup screen;
  • the manufacturer's coverage check shows coverage has not started;
  • the record shows no account history.
