IntroductionNormative§1
Scope
What UGP describes, which device classes v1.0 covers, and what UGP does not do.
1.1 What UGP describes
UGP describes the condition of an individual consumer electronic device, or a declared lot of devices, offered for resale or recorded for any other purpose (trade-in, buyback, repair, recycling).
1.2 Device classes
Device classes are covered by profiles:
- The Phone profile is complete in v1.0.
- The Tablet profile is complete in v1.0 and inherits the Phone profile with scaled tolerances.
- Smartwatch, earbuds, laptop/desktop, console/handheld/controller, and VR headset/smart glasses are listed in §16 as profile packs to come. Until a pack is published, a device in those classes may be graded only for the axes this document defines generically, and the record shall carry
profile_status: "provisional".
1.3 What UGP does not do
UGP does not:
- certify a device;
- warrant anything on behalf of the person who grades it;
- set prices or commercial terms.
Marketplaces and businesses that adopt UGP set their own listing policies. Those policies are kept out of this standard.
