What every grade guarantees
Every UGP grade, from New Sealed to Acceptable, means a resale-ready device. The grade name then describes appearance only.
Every UGP grade means
| Guarantee | What it rules out | Governing section |
|---|---|---|
| Fully functional | Any fault from the lexicon, minor or major | §7.4 |
| No cracks anywhere | A fracture of glass, ceramic, plastic or metal on any surface, including lens covers and back glass | §5.1 |
| No triggered liquid indicator | A triggered liquid-damage indicator | §5.1 |
| Battery at least 80% (or not applicable) | A battery below 80% of its original capacity | §8.3 |
| No account or management lock | Activation Lock / Find My, Google FRP, MDM, firmware passwords, financing holds | §9.1 |
| Data sanitised | A device not wiped, or of unknown state | §10.1 |
| Not reported lost or stolen, by a lost/stolen check or the seller's declaration | A blacklisted, counterfeit, recalled-unsafe or tampered device; a device with neither a check nor a declaration | §9.3 |
The grade name describes appearance only. "Acceptable" is a working, unlocked, wiped device with heavy wear, never a broken one.
What a grade does not say
Some facts do not change the grade, so they are shown beside it whenever they apply:
- A carrier lock. A carrier-locked device can be graded; the lock is disclosed with the carrier's name. §9.2
- Non-genuine parts. Allowed in Like New to Acceptable, disclosed by name. §10.2.3
- The kit. Full, partial or unit only; disclosed when not full. §10.4
- How the battery was read. Measured, or declared ≥ 80%. §8.3
Who stands behind it
UGP defines what a grade means; it does not certify a device or warrant anything on the grader's behalf. The grader or seller who issues a grade answers for its record and its claims. A V0 record is declared by the grader; V1 adds evidence; V2 is inspected by the steward or an approved inspector. §1.3 · §13.2 · §17.4
A unit that arrives with a fault, a crack, an undisclosed lock or a battery below 80% is materially misgraded. §14.3
